Francois Gaunoux Pommard 'les Rugiens' 1er Cru 1961

Allen Meadows: Moderate bricking but still ruby core. A lovely and fully mature nose speaks of warm earth, subtle earth notes and ample sous bois that can also be found on the rich and still solidly firm middle weight plus flavors underpinned by obvious minerality on the admirably long finish. This doesn't have the richness and velvety mouth feel of the '64 (see herein) but it's perhaps longer and certainly more focused. Note that while this is drinking beautifully now, it should continue to do so for years to come as there is still plenty of the intrinsic Rugiens muscle present. 92 points
