Jean-michel Gaunoux Pommard 'rugiens' 1er Cru 1999

Allen Meadows: This is still very backward and not as expressive as the '99 Epenots (see herein) though an hour of aeration aids considerably in this regard and helps to reveal impressively complex earthy and mineral-infused dark berry fruit aromas. The broad-scaled, intense and beautifully well-detailed medium-bodied flavors are powerful to the point of being robust and are supported by still very firm tannins that will require at least another decade to harmonize. I would not be tempted to open a bottle for at least another 5 years because while the potential is remarkable, it's not showing much of it today even with extended air. 93 points
