“TERRE ROUGE means "Red Earth". The rugged granite and volcanic-based vermillion-colored soils are one of the hallmarks of the Sierra Foothills region, where winemaker Bill Easton grows Rhône varietals, including Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Viognier, Roussanne, and Marsanne. Easton is one of the pioneers of Amador's modern winemaking era, founding his winery in 1984, and his wines still lead the pack in terms of quality. Easton's high elevation sites reach up to 3,200 feet and contribute to the complexity of the wines. The style of Terre Rouge's red wines emphasizes deep color, balanced flavors, full middle palate, and a long finish, with power and finesse. They gain complexity with age. The whites are aromatic, flavorful with nice texture, and balanced with good acidity. They also show an amazing mineral sense that is derived from the stony mountain soils. Easton makes wines that are unique and site-specific with a sense of place all of their own. He farms and runs his winery sustainably, even relying entirely on solar power for his tasting room and winemaking facilities.”
